World Missions Vision
I recently read the following quote about missions from Henry Martin. “The Spirit of Christ is the spirit of missions, and the nearer we get to him, the more intensely missionary we must become.” Those words are convicting words to me. These words challenge the reality of my relationship with the Lord. They challenge my involvement in missions. My involvement is a reflection of my closeness to the Lord. My involvement may be a measuring stick of where I am spiritually.
Before Jesus left earth he gave his followers instructions to follow. We call these instructions the Great Commission. This commission is found in all four Gospels and the book of Acts. – Mt. 28 – Mk 16:15 – Luke 24:47-49 – John 20:21 – Acts 1:8
It is important to be involved in a World Missions program. To stop short of reaching the world is to fail the Great Commission. There are several factors that make this Commission so great. I want you to consider the following suggestions.
It is Great because of its founder:
This instruction comes from the Godhead. The same God who made man seeks to redeem man. We are reminded that God SO loved the world.
It is Great because of its Focus:
It is not enough to reach the reachable. We must reach the unreachable. God is not willing that any should perish. 2 Peter 3:9 God wants all to know the gospel message.
It is Great because of its Formula:
The instruction contains what mankind needs the most. The message that we declare is substantial, it will change one’s life. Faith in Christ, in His finished work at Calvary. The formula is found in 1 Thess: 1:9-10
It is Great because of its Funding:
We are not only told to reach the world. God informs us how to do it. Acts 1:8 reveals the formula. 2 Cor. 8-9 reveals the funding. We call this Faith promise giving. We promise to give and trust that God will replace it. We make commitments to our missionaries. We must keep those commitments and honor our word. It all depends on our involvement. The Spirit of Missions is the Spirit of Revival.
