The Marks of Revival   Jonah 3:1-10

I am not sure if there has ever been a revival like the one at Pentecost. The Holy Spirit was poured out upon the disciples, and great things began to happen. As a result 3,000 people were saved and Baptized into the Church. However the Bible does record a greater number of people being saved under the ministry of Jonah.

In Jonah chapter 3 we read of the great response of the Ninevites. Multitudes were saved.  Now we are reminded that Revival is for the Church not the World. However a revived church will impact their world. And the Evidence is souls will be saved. There are some aspects of revival mentioned in this text. They have been called the marks of Revival, or Spiritual Renewal. They are found here in Jonah 3.

A GREAT PRINCIPLE: 3:1

God comes to us and He says it is not too late. I will give you a second chance. The Principle of the Second Chance. The Word of the Lord can come unto you the second time. There are many who have benefited from this Principle.

A GREAT PEOPLE: 3:2

Nineveh would pale in comparison to the US. We boast a population of over 300 Million people. Great Power, yet Great Sin. We have turned our Back on God. We practice Idolatry from a young age.

God has blessed America.  America Has turned her back on God. I can hear the call of God to his Prophets today, Go to America that great Nation.

A GREAT PROCLAMATION: 3:2

Paul told Timothy to preach the Word. That is what God told Jonah, Preach the Word.  Not your opinions, not your conclusions. Preach what I tell you to Preach. That is God’s word to every preacher. Preach the truth and let the chips fall where they may.

A GREAT POWER: 3:5

The people believed God.  From the King on the throne, to the beggar on the street. The power of God’s word reaches the heart of all who will open the ear. The Preaching of God’s word produced:

  1. Great Conviction. The King was convicted:
  2. Great Confession. V 7 They proclaimed a fast. That is a Confession.
  3. Great Conversion: 3:8

A GREAT PURPOSE 3:9-10

God saw their repentance. That was the whole purpose of the Call to Jonah.  God wanted the people to repent. Friend if we would draw near to God, He would draw near to us. At times Gods action is a response to our action.

We need revival, yes America, but first the Church. And that means you and me.
