Church on Monday

Church on Monday

Church is not just a Sunday Thing. The Church meets together on Sunday, and that is a good thing. We Worship and Fellowship and Serve the Lord. But Church is not just a Sunday thing .That is the application of this text. We are to apply truth in all of our life.  At home, at school, and at work.

This text is basically describing the workplace. In the historical setting it is speaking to those in ancient times that were under the yoke of slavery. A “yoke” (6:1) was a symbol of slavery (Lev.26:13). Since slaves couldn’t change their circumstances, Paul’s advice was to change how they thought about their circumstances (I Cor. 7:21,22). It’s the secret of life, since oftentimes our circumstances can’t be changed.

Let’s talk about the workplace. As believers we work in society, some of us work for the unsaved and some for the saved. This counsel is not for the employer, it is for the employed. We should strive to glorify God in the workplace. We should not bring a reproach against God’s name.  Allow me to share a few skills to take with you to the workplace.

First we should Examine our heart: Wherever you work, whatever you work at, we should work from our heart. Col. 3:23  And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;  1Cor. 10:31  Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. We should never be considered as being lazy. We should work with all of our heart because we are seeking to please the Lord in all we do. We should work with Enthusiasm.  The Word means In God. Full of God. That is how we should work, In God, Full of God.

Second we should Eliminate Complaining: Let’s be honest, it is easy to complain., and sometimes it is downright enjoyable. There is always something to complain about. Here is a novel Idea.  Just do your work. We read in Titus 2:9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; The work place is full of complainers.  A believer should show respect for their employer and not complain.  Phil. 2:14-15 reminds.,"Do all things without murmurings and disputing's: "  That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as  lights in the world; Eliminate Complaining, Elevate Integrity.

Finally we should Elevate Integrity: It was a common practice in ancient times for slaves to steal from the job. 1. It is not much different today. Many employees steal from their employer. The greatest commodity is time. You may remember the cliche,  "And honest days work for an honest day pay."  Some would argue but I am not getting paid as I should.  that may be true, but if that is what you agreed to then be honest. Integrity at its core involves some Grit. That word implies, character and strength, endurance.  A believer should show forth integrity at the workplace.

We should choose Matthew 5:16 as a workplace theme.  "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. "

Church on Monday and every other day for that matter. Let’s be God’s Church.
